De Betteld celebrates its 50th anniversary!
It's our birthday! You've probably already heard. De Betteld was founded in 1972, and now we're 50 years on. Reason enough to look back on those five decades. We're doing that with old photos and videos from the past, but also with people's experiences. We have already compiled a great deal in our book '50 Years of De Betteld', but not everything could fit in. On this page, you will find old photos, videos, and people's stories.
The book
To mark our 50th anniversary, we have compiled the best stories in an 80-page book! Plenty of reading material, in other words. All guests arriving this summer will receive one book per family. You can take a look at it here.
The initial phase
De Betteld was founded in 1972 by Bertus Hobelman and his wife. Gerhard and Marty were still two young boys at the time. Here are some photos from those early days. It started with a small field of tents and slowly grew to accommodate more people and more space. Some of the regular guests who still visit De Betteld today were already there back then!
